Just like Esbjörn Svensson and Bobo Stenson, another two great figureses of the innovative Swedish jazz pianism that already performed at the Belgrade Jazz Festival, Lundgren was awarded the Jan Johansson scholarship. This pianist skilfully blends various influences into a compact, fascinating whole, he always gives priority to his musicality than to his undoubtedly fantastic technique. Whether it is contemporary classical music, the inexhaustible northern folk tradition or the pulsating groove of jazz; gentle or powerful performance; a classic trio format or the Mare Nostrum band with Paolo Fresu (trumpet) and Richard Galliano (accordion) – in all these areas Lundgren achieves the highest results.

Eyot is the winner of the 2009 Umbria Jazz Balkanic Windows competition, as well as the 2012 Midem Off Showcase (Cannes, France). They released four albums so far – their latest production Innate (Ninety and Nine Records/Metropolis Jazz) was recorded and mixed by the renowned Steve Albini at the Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago. Just like before, the band heavily relies on the traditional music from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, creating a true blend of old and new, the East and the West.

As leader, he released thirteen albums. He has recorded with an impressive list of artists including Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Kenny Wheeler, Paul Bley, Chris Cheek, Chris Speed, Ben Street, Mark Turner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Andrew D’Angelo, George Garzone, Craig Taborn, Oscar Noriega, David Virelles, Jon Christensen, Jesper Zeuthen… He was with Paul Motian & The Electric Bebop Band as well as with Tomasz Stanko’s Dark Eyes Quintet, when they performed at the 2010 Belgrade Jazz festival. Besides leading a trio with Thomas Morgan and Joey Baron, in recent years Bro worked with the trumpet player Palle Mikkelborg and with the Danish electronica producer Thomas Knak. At this festival, he will present his new album Streams (ECM) with its emphases on melody, sound, space, layered textures and interaction with his renowned partners.

He has recorded ten albums with JazzKamikaze and People Are Machines, before releasing the first album under own name in 2011 on the British label Edition Records. Today, he is a Munich-based ACT label’s exclusive artist, expressing his art in various environments: from combo ensembles to big bands, to classic chamber orchestra. In Belgrade, he presents his new album Circle of Chimes, that will be released four weeks earlier. In Neset’s words, this is the darkest, most melancholic, as well as the most personal album he has made so far.
