Winners of the “Newcomer of the year” ECHO Jazz award, the most impressive act at the 12 Points Festival in San Sebastian 2016 and German showcase at this years’ Jazzhead! EXPO in Bremen, young band members of Eva’s quartet blend typical European jazz poetry, folk elements, waltz and free jazz, melodic passages and more provocative expression in highly emotional and intense music.

He studied in Marciac and Toulouse, and from early on in his career he had the opportunity to meet with jazz icons during the Marciac Jazz festival. In 2000 he moved to Paris where he would later form a quartet inspired with the music of Coltrane, Shorter and Coleman, as well as 19th and 20th century classical music. He played, among others, with Michel Portal, Jacky Terrasson, Daniel Humair, Yaron Herman, Joachim Kuhn, John Taylor, Jean-Paul Celea, Hugo Carvalhais, Roberto Negro… After his exquisite performance with Vincent Peirani at the 2016 Belgrade Jazz Festival, for the first time in Serbia he presents his own quintet, expressionist at its core and with improvisation as the main feature. He leads another quintet with Joachim Kuhn and he performs in a duo with Kuhn, Negro or Peirani.

Ersahin (1965) was born and raised in Stockholm, listening to a wide range of music, from Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones to punk rock and reggae, to Miles and Coltrane. He started studies at the Berklee College, but quickly moved to New York and took part in the Big Apple’s club life. In 1998 he formed the band Wax Poetic, blending jazz, electronic music and spoken word, with young Norah Jones on vocals. Later he led various bands including Love Trio, Nublu Orchestra (conducted by Laurence Morris), I Led 3 Lives, Our Theory, Wonderland… In 2008, he started the energy-packed band Istanbul Sessions with the goal to present to the world talented artists from Turkey, just as he used to take his New York-based fellow musicians to Turkey.

In 2010, he performed for the first time at the Belgrade Jazz Festival as a member of Enrico Rava’s quintet and for the first time appeared on ECM label. Continuing his solo career under the wing of the most prestigious jazz record label, he released albums City of Broken Dreams (2013) and This Is The Day (2015), both in a trio context and Ida Lupino (2016) in quartet with Gianluca Petrella, named as the best album of the year by the Musica Jazz magazine. On his third appearance at the Belgrade Jazz festival (the second was in 2013 when he played in duo with Petrella), he will present his new quintet, Inferno, with Francesco Bearzatti on tenor sax.
