He has garnered top honours in critics and readers polls of DownBeat, JazzTimes, The Village Voice and Rolling Stone and received four Grammy nominations – the latest one this spring, for the duo album he recorded with Brad Mehldau. Peter Evans Ensemble http://2017.bjf.rs/en/schedule/peter-evans-ensemble/ Fri, 15 Sep 2017 06:09:41 +0000 http://2017.bjf.rs/?post_type=schedule&p=336 Trumpet player Peter Evans (1981) has been active on the New York scene since 2003. He recorded with Mostly Other People Do the Killing, a group that staged an explosive performance at the 2012 Belgrade Jazz Festival, as well as with Pulverize the Sound and Rocket Science. He collaborated with a broad range of figures in modern music, including John Zorn, Joe McPhee, Evan Parker, Craig Taborn, Jim Black, Tyshawn Sorey, Nate Wooley, Mary Halvorson, Matana Roberts… Besides Peter Evans Ensemble, he currently leads the trio Being & Becoming, he is very active and admired solo performer, and in 2011 he started his own recording label More Is More Records.

The septet Evans presents in Belgrade marks a new chapter in his career as a bandleader and composer, reflecting the increasingly multi-dimensional and orchestral direction of his music. The ensemble of esteemed avant-garde players is a true 21st century chamber orchestra, blending dense notated scores, free improvisation, novel combinations of acoustic and electronic sounds, as well as performance energy channelling both intensity and sincerity.
