Vojislav Bubiša Simić (1924), the dean of Serbian jazz has an impressive career as conductor of the RTB Jazz Orchestra (now RTS Big Band) and composer of a number of jazz, classical, choir, film and children’s music. In his composition “Igra pod Šar-planinom” (1962) he used folk motifs, making him the first jazz composer in Serbia to blend jazz with Balkan tradition. Since mid-2000s, he proved himself as an author as well, when he published his memoires: Susreti i sećanja (2005), Veselo putovanje: sa Džez orkestrom RTV Beograd po belom svetu (2006), Sentimentalno putovanje (2011), Neispričane priče (2014) and Zvuci vremena (2017). His latest book tells 23 stories in six chapters, covering the entire 20th century with his memories about music, war and packed with anecdotes.
